Artist Statement
Biodiversity has always amazed me. The natural world is so full of knowledge and I love learning as much as I can. The ideas behind my work usually come from personal experiences with local wildlife, or wildlife from travelling. I spend my time going for walks with my camera, photographing birds, plants, and the occasional deer or coyote that I have the pleasure of seeing. These little one on one experiences really fuel my love of wildlife, every animal is different and reacts to me and my camera in a different way, I cherish every single one. These experiences have inspired a few paintings, such as “Chance encounter” and “Home”. Work involving research and conservation are a large driver of my work as well.
As I have recently completed my Bachelor of Science from a Wildlife Biology program, a lot of my inspiration now stems from what I’ve learned at University and my experiences with volunteer work. My love for birds has grown immensely through being able to handle them up close through rescue and release when I patrol for the Fatal Light Awareness program which works to reduce bird – building collisions during migration. I also get to care for and handle a lot of local wildlife as a volunteer for the Toronto Wildlife Centre.
All of my work is based on my own photography.
